1958 356A 1600 Speedster Race Car
Was in-period race history enough to get it done?

I just had to break my own image size rule as the picture above is one of my favorite shots recently. Every special Porsche should come with their own scale model. And this one was special, as it was raced in period by privateer racer Ed Parlett at SCCA events through the late ‘60s and comes with racing memorabilia and historical photos of the car doing what it was meant to do in-period.
Originally delivered via Max Hoffman’s NYC dealership in Light Ivory, this 1958 356A 1600 Speedster was painted Orange and Black with a #45 gumball while owned by Parlett. The car was also fitted with a 912-sourced 1.6-liter flat-four along with 356C brakes when it ran in competition. The car apparently sat from 1975 through 2008 when it was acquired by a German collector who brought the car up to snuff in 2021. Work at that time included an overhaul of the engine along with dual Weber 40 IDF carburetors and a center-exit exhaust. Included with the sale, along with the model, are more documents and records than pictures of the car, and there are a lot. A very cool example of a car with some SCCA history.
The last time we saw this 356 Speedster was at Monterey last year when it set a new 5-year high for 356 racers at $224,000. Yes, it has SCCA history, but that was a good $100+ bid above the previous high bid of any other comp. It failed to sell this time around at a final bid of $195,000, which was all the money despite the cool history.
