1962 356B Coupe Modified
An outlaw'd outlaw brought all the money. But it's never enough, is it?

Rod Emory has made quite the name for himself in Porsche-circles over the years (more like decades) crafting some amazing pieces of machinery out of his shop, Emory Motorsports in McMinnville, OR. His wildly customized Emory Specials command top-of-the-market prices when it comes to modified 356s with prices touching the $900,000 mark. His Emory Outlaw 356s, which are a bit more stock-looking than the Specials, bring a premium as well, with prices ranging from $300,000 on up.
This 1962 356B Coupe was in Rod Emory’s hands twice in its life, first when it was converted into a race car in the mid-2000s, and then once again in 2012 when it was modified in more of an Outlaw style. It was acquired by the current owner in 2018 and has since seen a repaint in Blue along with an interior retrim in Blue leatherette with Tan Corduroy inserts. Out back, the engine was rebuilt with Shasta 86mm pistons with 10.5:1 compression, an Elgin camshaft, and dual Solex carburetors with velocity stacks in 2012, and a top-end rebuild since then under current ownership.
Our Spotlight car failed to sell at a final bid of $260,000. And while you might say that was light for an Emory build, was it a true Emory build? It was an early race car build and then rebuilt in his Outlaw “style”. But since then, it’s been reworked a third time, so I wouldn’t necessarily deem it a true Emory Outlaw. That being said, its final bid was up there with the highest bids we’ve seen for Non-Emory and Non-Zagato 356s. Final bid was about right for what it was.
