1962 356B T6 Roadster

This one was a head scratcher

The 356B T5 Roadster replaced the Convertible D, which had succeeded the 356A Speedster, offering a sportier alternative to the more luxurious 356B Cabriolet. Built by Drauz from 1959 to 1961, it featured a removable windshield, a lightweight soft top, and a Speedster-style dashboard. In late 1961, the 356B T6 Roadster debuted with twin engine grilles, now built by D’Ieteren Frères. However, after just 248 units, Porsche discontinued the Roadster in 1962, keeping just the more practical 356B T6 Cabriolet as their open-top variant.

This 1962 356B T6 Roadster has been with the owner for 25 years and underwent a five-year nut-and-bolt restoration, completed in 2020. Stripped to bare metal and refinished in Silver, the car received extensive metalwork where needed, while the Red leather interior, gauges, and switchgear were fully restored. The original transmission remains intact, though the 1.6L flat-four is a replacement. With fewer than 1,500 miles since restoration, the car presents well, though minor blemishes and some oddities, such as the VIN plate affixed with double-sided tape instead of rivets, had me scratching my head.

Over the past five years, T6 Roadsters averaged around the $250,000 mark early on before jumping to around $300,000 in 2024 despite many other variants of the 356 softening. Our Spotlight car initially beat those averages with a final bid of $350,000 back in October of 2023, but the seller didn’t take the money. This time around, the car was bid to half that, ending at $175,000, but now has a “Buy Now” of $220,500 over on Hemmings’ website. Another head-scratcher. 🤨
