1963 356 Carrera 2
A rare Sunroof Coupe for our first T6 Carrera of the year
We hadn’t seen many Four-Cam 356s all year, and then BAM!, two in a matter of weeks. This 1963 356 Carrera 2 is one of roughly 310 T6 examples and on of only 27 optioned with a retractable sunroof and comes refinished in Light Ivory over Black leatherette with Pepita cloth inserts.
The car was refurbished in the UK between the late ‘90s and early ‘00s and was featured on the cover of Classic Porsche magazine upon completion in 2013. The paint looks to be in decent condition although it is showing its age with a few chips here and there. On the inside, the Black leather and Pepita show minimal wear, just some normal use.
The car’s replacement 587/1 was overhauled during the 2000s refurbishment and the cam lobes were replaced in 2016 with more work carried out in 2019 and 2023. Service receipts can be found in the gallery as well as some additional documentation, period photos of the car, and a copy of its Kardex.
The last T6 Carrera to sell was at The White Collection in December of last year. That car set a five-year high at $566,000 all-in. Prior to that, we had two cars sell back-to-back in July, one at $360k and one at $455k. Our Spotlight car fell in-between those two with a final bid of $425,000. At that number, the seller decided to keep her, and I tend to agree, as I was expecting much closer to the $455k mark. While yes, it had a replacement engine, it was still a rare “Sunroof Coupe.” Just not the right weekend for this one.
