1965 911 Coupe
Another one saved
They’re only original once, and by that, I don’t mean that the 911 pictured above is a “survivor,” but that this 1965 911 Coupe is an OG first generation 911 and as you can see, is in need of some saving.
This 1965 911 Coupe was originally finished in Ruby Red over Black and was purchased by the selling dealer in 2023. It now sports silver paint, with plenty of rust, and has had the carpets and front seats removed while the door panels and rear seats remain. The car comes with a copy of the Kardex which shows original colors and equipment along with an engine number that corresponds to that stamping on the engine.
Obviously this was a project, and was presented as such. But it does come with some great bits such as the factory installed Webasto heater, Becker Europa radio, original date stamped wheels, original tool roll and jack, and factory-optioned enameled crest hub caps. What an opportunity to restore an early 911 back to original. Or if you are like me, send it over to Sports Purpose or Dutchmann for a bit of a custom hot rod.
Over the last five years, we’ve only seen a couple of other early SWB 911 project cars like this one cross the block. The first was a ‘65 that sold for $39,911 back in July 1999 and the other, a ‘65 911 that brought $52,913 in May of last year. Our Spotlight car found a home at a final bid of $47,000. But more importantly, it looks like it’s going to a good home and will be restored. Another one saved 😁
