1967 911S Soft-Window Targa

A Soft-Window In A Soft Market

1967 was a big year for the Porsche 911 as it was the first year of the more powerful 911S and the first time we saw Fuchs alloy wheels and the all-new, removable roof panel Targa version. Due to fears of the NHTSA outlawing fully open convertibles, Porsche developed the Targa with a stainless steel roll bar and removable plastic rear window. A fixed glass rear window was offered the following year, making the “Soft-Window” Targas a rare and trustworthy 911.

This 1967 911S Soft-Window Targa is one of only 483 examples built for the model year. It is finished in Polo Red over Black leatherette with Houndstooth seat inserts, 15” Fuchs alloy wheels, and Yellow-Lens Hella Fog Lamps. The car was refurbished in 2009 and still looks in excellent condition, with plenty of photos pre- and post-work.

The market for Soft-Window S Targas has been soft since the first of the year, with only one example out of the six on offer finding homes. That car sold for $246,400 at RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale and was a far cry from the prices we saw during the peak of the market in 2021, where we saw several examples trade for over $400k.

Had this example been offered in 2021, I wouldn’t have been surprised if it had been among the upper pricing levels. But since then, the market has softened, and our ‘67 Targa sold for $258,000. But I don’t expect the market to stay soft for long; the buyer took hold of an opportunity here to score a great car at a great price. Well done.
