1969 911E Soft-Window Targa

A rare Targa fails to sell

1969 marked major changes for the 911, with the wheelbase being increased by just over two inches to help even out weight distribution and improve handling. Also new for 1969 was the introduction of the 911E as the new mid-range variant. The E carried the new Type 901/09 engine with mechanical fuel injection and a CD ignition, making it compliant for all markets without any modifications.

This 1969 911E Soft-Window Targa is finished in its original color combination of Ossi Blue over a Beige Leatherette interior. It comes out of a full 3-year nut and bolt restoration by the Czech seller after their purchase of the car out of California in 2017.

As evident from the photographs in the gallery, this Targa has received a Concours-quality restoration and is in absolutely stunning condition inside, outside, and underneath. Speaking of underneath, the car still has its original engine and transaxle, making this one of the nicest examples we’ve seen in quite some time.

Comps for ‘69 Soft-Window Targas are few and far between as only ~18 were produced due to most opting for the glass rear window. The only comp I have is a Cocoa example that sold as part of last year’s Oktoberfest Collection for $204,000, while glass-equipped cars have averaged around $90k.

Our Spotlight car failed to sell at a high bid of $115,000 but is offered with a Buy Now of $175,000 in PCARMARKET’s Deal Tank. Add shipping, tax, and import duties to that price, and you’re probably close to the Cocoa car. The car's current location most likely took many buyers out of the auction, but I, for one, would jump on this excellent example if I were in the market. Hopefully, someone grabs it.
