1969 912 Coupe 5-Speed
Another great result for Porsche's entry level 356 replacement
When I first started SML almost two years ago, nothing shocked me more than the prices for 912s. I couldn’t believe that Porsche’s entry-level car, with its 356-derived engine, was averaging just shy of $60,000 for long wheel base cars with quite a few topping $70k and some deep into the $80s. Today, that shock still stands as they have continued on at those numbers despite some Porsche models coming back down after the peak in the summer of 2022.
This 1969 912 Coupe 5-Speed is finished in Polo Red over a Black leatherette and Houndstooth interior and shows 87,000 miles on the odometer. The car was repainted in its original shade in 1993 and had the passenger-side outer rocker panel replaced in 2023. The paint still shows extremely well for its age and the replacement rocker panel looks good, although you can tell its much newer from pics underneath, but I’m being picky.
The interior was refinished in 1994 and looks just as good as the paint. Out back, the car still has its original engine with ignition components replaced and a valve adjustment performed in 2023. In preparation for the sale, the seller had the shift coupler rebuilt. She’s an absolutely beautiful car, but what makes this one really stand out is that it is a rare, factory sunroof example.
As I mentioned above, LWB 912 Coupes have held fairly steady over the last twelve months and have been recently propped up with two sales above $90k in the last ~month. While this example didn’t hit those numbers, it sold at a very strong $79,000 thanks to condition and that factory sunroof. Fair price for a great car. Both parties won here.
