1971 911T Targa

Are 2.2-liter 911s heading back to their 2022 highs?

As Porsche’s entry-point into 911 ownership in the early 70s, the 911T received the upgraded 2.2-liter engine, but was down on power compared to the E and S models which had 155 bhp and 180 bhp respectively compared to the T’s 125. However, it still came with the upgraded suspension over the previous generation and Fuchs wheels to complete the look.

This 1971 911T Targa comes out of 27 years of ownership and was refurbished in the 2010s. During that time, the car was repainted in its factory shade of Signal Orange and the interior was reupholstered in Black. Out back, the 2.2-liter engine was rebuilt as was the transaxle and a Dansk muffler and SSI heat exchangers were installed as well.

Overall, this matching-numbers T looks to still be in very good condition and comes with recent service records as well as receipts for the work completed during the refurbishment. A very nice car in a great color, for sure.

The market for 2.2-liter Targas has been on the softer side lately with prices going from an average of $76,000 in early 2022 to $66,000 earlier this year. Over the last few months, however, prices have risen back above $70k, with our Spotlight car almost doubling that selling at a final bid of $130,000, which was about $3,000 short of a new five-year high. Well sold, but a very nice example. Could be the new norm though as we get back into 2022 price territory.
