1971 914-6

Is Porsche's little sixer making a comeback?

The Porsche 914-6, a product of the unique collaboration between Porsche and Volkswagen, was introduced as a more powerful variant of the 914 series. Equipped with a 2.0-liter flat-six engine, the 914-6 delivered significantly enhanced performance compared to the four-cylinder models. With fewer than 3,500 units produced compared to over 100,000 four-cylinder 914s, the sixer has become the one to have among Porsche collectors.

This 1971 914-6 was picked up in Europe by its original owner before being brought back to California, where it stayed within the family until the seller’s acquisition in 2024. Finished in Black over Black, the car shows some wear in the form of chips and touchups and currently shows 18,000 miles on the odometer with the seller noting that the five digit odo has rolled over. Mechanically, the car looks to have been well kept and includes service records along with some spare parts. A very nice, original California car with a known ownership history.

The 914-6 market peaked in the spring of 2023 with quite a few cars selling at $100k+. But 2024 saw many cars struggle with only two cars breaking the $100k barrier and many failing to sell at bids well below that mark. Recently, it looks like 914-6s are back as we’ve had a number of sales just below $100k and one hit a new high at $173,600. Our Spotlight car sold at a final bid of $96,000. Right on the money for recent sales, but a good price for such an original car and hopes that the market makes a comeback.
