1972 911S Coupe

The market sure does love a good Olklappe

1972 is one of my favorite years for the classic long-hood 911 as it was the only year that featured the Olklappe, an external oil filler flap located on the right quarter panel. Legend has it that it was only offered for one year as gas station attendants often confused this for the gas tank door. Big oops!

This 1972 911S Coupe 5-Speed has been owned by only three families since new and features quite the history provided by the seller who researched and reached out to the original family. If you like a Porsche with a story (in a good way), this example has a great one.

The car was refinished in its factory color of Silver Metallic in 2010 after being stripped down to bare metal and still looks to be in very good condition after 14 years. The interior was tastefully customized with Black leatherette over period-correct Sport Seats with houndstooth fabric inserts. During this time, the original engine was rebuilt with new piston rings, cylinder heads, installation of case studs, and a new clutch. Included with the sale are original parts such as seats, and a service history going back to almost day one.

The market for 2.4-liter 911S Coupes has been fairly flat but looks to have taken a slight dip over the last few months with average prices going from just over $175k down to $165k. Our Spotlight car sold at a final bid of $175,000, back up to where we saw them earlier this year. Solid deal for a solid car.
