1972 911T Targa 5-Speed

A big sale for a one-year oddity

For 1972, Porsche’s entry-level 911 remained the ‘T,’ but it now came equipped with a 2.4-liter flat six and Porsche’s new 915 transmission. Also, new for ‘72 was the addition of an exterior oil filler located on the right-rear quarter panel. Known as the Oelklappe, this unique trait only last for one year as according to legend, too many gas attendants thought it the gas tank and… well, oops.

This 1972 911T Targa 5-Speed came finished in Sepia Brown over a Tan leatherette interior and showed 18,000 miles (TMU) on the five-digit odometer. The car looked to be in very nice condition as evidenced by the hundreds of detailed photos which included a binder full of service records. Photos also include a Porsche Classic Technical Certificate which indicates numbers that line up with the engine stamping.

2.4-liter 911T Targas have slid a bit over the last few years going from an average price of $86,000 in 2023 down to just over $80,000 in 2024. 2025 was looking to be much of the same, that is until this car came along and pushed averages up with its $135,000 sale. A top-five price over the past five years, but for a very well-deserving example. Well done to both buyer and seller.
