Will US-only CSI cars ever catch RoW MFIs?
For model years 1974 and 1974, while the rest of the world received a more powerful 2.7-liter MFI engine, US cars stuck with the less-powerful 2.7-liter from the 911S due to tightening US emissions legislation. We always seem to get the short end of the stick in these things. Thanks government ;).
This 1974 911 Carrera Targa is one such US examples with the 2.7-liter CIS engine. It has been refinished in its original shade of Peru Red of a reupholstered Black leather interior along with Black-centered Fuchs, Black Carrera side script, and a Black Targa bar for a very good-looking car.
The Peru Red paintwork was completed under current ownership and looks to be in very nice condition although a few bits that shouldn’t have been painted have been. Minor. On the inside the Black leather interior is very nice as well showing minimal signs of wear. The replacement 2.7 was rebuilt in 2000 and the seller includes a stack of service history in the photo gallery.
Over the last four years, 2.7-liter CSI cars have been on the up and up with average prices going from around $35,000 in the Spring of 2020 to almost $100,000 today thanks to a high sale of $201,600 (all in) at Gooding earlier this year. Excluding that high, we haven’t seen a CSI cross the $90,000 mark… until now as our Spotlight car sold at a final bid of $95,000. It looks like CSIs are still climbing, but remain a far cry from the RoW MFI examples. Solid deal for both parties.
