1974 914 LE

Our fifth LE in a row to fail to sell. What's up with the market?

Produced for the 1974 model year, Porsche’s 914 LE was built to celebrate Penske driver Mark Donohue’s dominance in the 1973 Can-Am series with 1,000 special cars for the North American market. The LE featured a 2.0-liter engine, improved suspension with the M491 equipment group, and distinctive “Bumblebee” or Creamsicle” color schemes, of which 500 of each were produced.

This 1974 914 LE is one such “Bumblebee” example as it sports a Black finish with Sunflower Yellow wheels and accents. The car presented in decent condition with the seller pointing out defects in the paint, but there were more questions than answers when it came to some of the originality of the car. It did look to be well serviced as plenty of service invoices were provided. While not perfect, this one had potential.

914 LEs have had a rough go of it recently with the last example having sold in 2022 with four no-sales between that and this one. Bids have been in the $20-34,000 range with the top bid for a Bumblebee LE with 48,000 miles shown on the odometer. Our Spotlight car, with 59,000 miles failed to sell at a high bid of $21,000. I’m starting to think $20-30k is the right price, but seller’s obviously disagree.
