1976 911 Carrera 3.0 Coupe
No sign of the (Minerva) blues here as we see another market high
Introduced for the 1976 model year, the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 was positioned as an option above the 2.7-liter 911 but below the all-new 911 Turbo, with which it shared its engine, although without the turbochargers. Only 2,564 Carrera 3.0 Coupes and 1,123 Targa were produced during its two-year run, and like most lust-worthy 911s of the era, it was not available in the US.
This 1976 911 Carrera 3.0 Coupe comes to auction out of Austria, where it was sold new. It was acquired in 2021 by the selling dealer from its previous owner of 30 years. It was subsequently restored to its original shade of Minerva Blue with Black side script over a custom Blue interior with Plaid accents as opposed to its original Black and Beige interior.
The paint is in excellent condition, as evidenced by the photos in the gallery, which also includes documentation of the restoration work performed. The front Sport Seats, trimmed in Blue with Plaid cloth inserts, are in great condition as well, as is the rest of the refinished interior. The engine was rebuilt during the restoration, and pictures of the build are provided as well. Overall, a very nicely restored example in a great color with a wild interior.
With only a handful of Carrera 3.0s offered over the last twelve months, comps are few and far between. Still, we have seen an average price of just over $100,000, with a high of $125,000 for another Minerva Blue example sold earlier this year and a most recent sale of $85,400 for yet another Minerva Blue (popular color!) example last month.
Our Spotlight car sold at a new five-year at a final bid of $195,000, which is quite the premium over the market. But when you look at the quality of the restoration and think about the money that went into this excellent example, $195,000 seems pretty reasonable. At least, that’s what the final few bidders were probably thinking. Well sold.
