1976 911 Carrera 3.0 Targa

A rare two-model year Targa in a great color combo. But was that enough?

The 1976 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 is distinguished by its powerful 3.0-liter flat-six engine derived from the 930 Turbo, delivering around 200 horsepower. Its lightweight construction, featuring an aluminum crankcase, enhanced its performance and handling. With only 3,687 units produced between 1976 and 1977, this model stands out for its rarity and classic looks in the 911 lineage.

This 1976 911 Carrera 3.0 is one of only 479 Targas built for that year and is finished in Black with Gold Carrera side script over a Black interior with a Black Targa bar. Originally a German car, this example was imported into the US in the 1980s and exported to Norway in 2013, where it sits today.

Repainted under previous ownership, the car presents today in decent condition with the seller highlighting blemishes in the photo gallery such as some on the right fender and a tear in the Targa top. On the inside, the Black interior looks much better, but then again, it was retrimmed in 2023. Other work in 2023 included the replacement oil hose and valve cover gaskets along with an oil change and servicing of the ignition system.

Carrera 3.0 Targas are few and far between with only 13 example crossing the block in the last five years. In that time, most cars have hovered around the $50,000 mark with a top sale of $79,260 for a RHD example sold last year. Our Spotlight car failed to sell at a final bid of $60,000, which was all the money, especially with it sitting overseas. Should have taken that bid.
