1976 912E

A single-year-only stop-gap touches new lows

The 912E holds a unique place in Porsche history as it was a single-year-only model that bridged the gap between the end of 914 production and the introduction of the 924 for the US market. Instead of the 356-based engine seen in the 912s of the ‘60s, the 1976 912E featured the 2.0 out of the 914. Only 2,099 units were produced, making it a bit more rarer than the roughly 32,000 912s of the ‘60s.

This 1976 912E comes out of 23 years of ownership and has been refinished in Red with a “whale-tail” spoiler over a reupholstered Tan leatherette interior. The car shows a bit of wear including a crack in the spoiler as shown in the gallery and has been recently serviced with new rear pads, rotors, calipers, brake lines, and more.

912Es have been gaining slowly over the past five years, going from an average sales price of around $30,000 in 2020 to sit just over $40,000 today. Recently, we saw a five-year high of $67,000 for another Red example, but this one didn’t come close to that as it sold at a final bid of $30,250, making it one of the cheapest 912Es we’ve seen all year. Fair price though for the condition.
