1977 911S Coupe
As original as they come
The 1977 911S Coupe holds a special place in the 911 lineage as the last model to feature the iconic 2.7-liter engine, marking the end of an era. This model saw notable improvements in reliability and durability over previous years, with Porsche addressing earlier mechanical issues and equipping it with Bosch’s K-Jetronic fuel injection for better fuel management and smoother drivability. Additionally, 1977 was among the first years for a fully galvanized body, which significantly improved rest resistance and longevity. These refinements make the ‘77 911S a highly regarded model, blending classic looks with final-model-year enhancements.
This 1977 911S Coupe is finished in its original Silver paintwork over original Black leatherette interior and shows 23,000 original miles. Yes, that’s a lot of “original” in one sentence, but it doesn’t end there as it retains its original engine as well. Okay, so it wasn’t all original as it has been serviced well over the years with new sunroof seals, and new brake primary cylinder along with a brake brake caliper and shocks in the 2010s. The seller includes plenty of detailed photos including a lot of paint meter readings, original books, plenty of service records, and a CD of the engine out service. What it didn’t include was a CD-rom to read said CD, cause who has one of those lying around? (Bad) Jokes, aside, this 2.7-liter 911S is a wonderfully preserved example, and it brought the money.
1974-1977 911S Coupes have risen steadily over the past five years going from an average price in the low $40s towards the end of 2019 to an average of $63,000 today. We’ve seen some beautiful examples over the past few years with a 4,300-mile example selling for $142,240 back in August of last year. Our Spotlight car didn’t quite reach that figure, but set a 2024 high at a final bid of $111,000. A fair price as they are only original once.
