1978 911SC Coupe
Color pushed this high-mileage SC to the top of the range
For model year 1978, the Porsche 911 model range was reduced to two models, with the 911SC (Super Carrera) effectively replacing the 911S of the previous generation. The 911SC was one of Porsche’s first models intended for the international market, sold as a more affordable alternative to the 911 Turbo, and featured the “unblown” version of the 911 Turbo engine.
This first-year 1978 911SC Coupe comes to market after 41 years of ownership and is finished in a great color combination of Cashmere Beige over a Cork leather interior and shows 166,000 miles on the odometer.
The Cashmere paint shows its age with some wear here and there and a dent on the engine lid and a small star on the windshield. Normal wear continues on the inside with creasing in the seats and some staining on the light headliner. Although the car sat in storage from 2008 to 2015, it looks to have been mechanically refreshed with an oil change, replacement of the distributor cap and rotor, and replacement of the fan and air pump belts. Still, some oil leaks were noted on a 2023 invoice.
The market for 911SC Coupes has softened over the last twelve months going from an average of $79,000 to just over $60,000 today. There are plenty of comps for cars over 160,000 miles with a high of $73,000 and a low of $47,000, which seems to be the range for anything over $100k. Our Spotlight SC sold at a final bid of $64,200, on the higher side for the mileage, but most likely driven by the color as this one still could use a little work. Well sold if this were your standard Silver, White, or Black car, but I would have paid up for this color combo as well.
