1978 911SC Targa
A super price for a Super Carrera

Porsche’s 911SC was introduced at a time when the future of the 911 hung in the balance, as the 911 model was set to be replaced by the all-new front-engined V8 928. Fitted with a turbo-less version of the 3.0 Turbo engine, the “Super Carrera” was destined to be the last of the line for the 911 and to go out with a bang, delivering a more refined, more drivable, and more dependable (thanks to the 3.0) performance car. But as we know, the 911 is still king, and the SC is a great variant that lasted long into the early ‘80s.
This first-year 1978 911SC Targa came refinished in its original Paint-to-Sample Peru Red with Black Targa bar and Black 16” Fuch wheels over a beautiful Cork leatherette interior. It showed just 33,000 miles on the odometer and looked to be in very nice condition as evidenced by the gallery full of detailed photos, paint meter readings, and service records. A really lovely example, and a color I’d like to see in person.
911SC Targas have held fairly steady over the last twelve months with an average price just over $50,000 and a recent twelve-month high of $91,000 set by a very nice Bitter Chocolate example earlier this month. But records were meant to be broken (especially by Targas this weekend) as it sold at a final bid of $93,000.
