1980 911SC Weissach Edition
Did the high mileage hurt this super-limited 911? Or did bidders look the other way?
The 911SC Weissach Edition was limited to just 468 units, all for the U.S. market, to celebrate the Weissach development center, the hub of Porsche’s engineering excellence. Available in Platinum Metallic or Black Metallic, it featured design elements such as a Turbo-look whale-tail spoiler and Black-centered Fuchs wheels. Inside, the car featured Doric Grey leather with Burgundy piping and sport seats. All of this made for a special edition celebrated for its rarity and connection to Porsche’s innovation and racing heritage.
This 1980 911SC Weissach Edition Coupe comes out of 34 years of ownership and shows an impressive 202,771 miles on the odometer. For the mileage, the Black Metallic paint looks pretty good, showing only some minor touch-ups and blemishes in the gallery. The interior is showing its age a bit more and has been fitted with a new rear parcel shelf, updated steering wheel, and 10-disc CD changer. But while the interior and exterior present in “driver” condition, the engine and transmission were rebuilt in August 2024 by Reno Rennsport, which means this one is probably good for another 200k.
Due to rarity, Weissach SCs are a bit tough to put a number on as we don’t see too many cross the block in a given year. And with almost double the mileage of any other Weissach I’ve seen, this example is even more difficult. But with a 92,000-mile example selling back in November for $70,000, the $50,000 paid for this one seems pretty strong, but worth it for the engine and trans rebuild, and better than the previous high bids this car has received over the past few months. Solid result for both buyer and seller.
