1980 928 S 5-Speed
The Green Goblin brings GTS money

Introduced in 1980, Porsche’s 928 S was a significant upgrade over the Base model with a larger 4.7-liter V8 producing 296 horsepower as well as improved aerodynamics thanks to a revised front spoiler and rear wing. It wasn’t until 1983, though, that the 928 S hit U.S. shores, but with a slightly detuned version of the 4.7 producing 234-247 horsepower. Either way, the new S delivered a great blend of grand touring comfort with thrilling performance, making it a standout in the early ‘80s Porsche lineup.
This 1980 928 S 5-Speed was originally an Italian example that made its way to the U.S. in 2022. It came finished from the factory in Lindgrunmetallic over a Brown leather interior with Pasha velour inserts and showed 132,000 km (~82k miles) on the odometer. Prior to import, the car was repainted in its original color and looks stunning in the slew of photographs in the gallery. The interior is excellent as well and just scream “80s!” During the seller’s ownership, plenty of service work was completed with copies of invoices present in the gallery. Overall a stunning example finished in one of the best color combinations I’ve ever seen on a 928.
If you were following this auction closely, you got a lesson in Rest of World 928s from some very informed commenters. You were also privy to quite the bidding war as well with this 928 S selling at an eye-watering sum of $142,069 when all was said and done. That price put this S up against the finest manual GTS’ we’ve seen and is a top-ten sale of a 928 (any model) in the last five years. Very well done.
