1982 911SC Targa

A rare color and recent restoration put this Targa on top

Launched for the 1978 model year, Porsche’s 911SC was the second generation of the 911 model and was intended to be replaced by the all-new 928. But thanks to strong sales with over 58,000 SCs sold, Porsche CEO Peter Schutz kept the icon alive.

This 1982 911SC Targa is finished in a rare shade of Arrow Blue over a Black vinyl interior with a Black roof panel and 16” Fuchs wheels with black centers. The car is said to have had the bodywork and interior restored prior to ownership in its original color combination, with mechanicals being restored by the selling dealer with only a handful of miles being driven since the work was completed. The odometer shows 106k, but is TMU (true mileage unknown) as the seller repaired the odometer in preparation for the sale.

The Arrow Blue paint is in fantastic condition, as indicated by the photos in the gallery, as is the interior. Mechanicals are as clean as expected for a recently refurbished car with only 15 miles since completion. The car does show an incident on the CarFax that notes damage to the “center pillar” (whatever that means), but no other information is known as the incident happened 20 years ago. The seller notes that they see no indication of damage or shoddy repair work and states that they are a full restoration facility themselves.

The market for SC Targas has been fairly steady over the last twelve months, with an average sales price of $47,147 and a $102,500 high sale for a 9k-mile example that sold at Mecum’s Indy auction in May of this year. Quite a few examples have sold over that average in the $60k range lately, but his Targa beat even those with a winning bid of $72,500. A rare color and recent work make this one well worth the money paid here. Well bought in my opinion.
