1984 911 Strosek Mega Speedster

But Porsche didn't make a Speedster in 1984?

After graduating Germany’s famous Wuppertal design school in 1970, Vittorio Strosek honed is craft under the tutelage of industrial designer Luigi Colani before venturing out on his own in the 1980s. Known for his widebody work, Strosek began his Porsche program with the 928 but really hit his stride modifying 964s throughout the ‘90s.

This 1984 911 was built by Fred Opert Racing and rebodied as a Strosek Mega Speedster at some point in the early ‘90s. It is finished in Black over a Black & Can-Can Red leather interior, comes with chrome phone-dial wheels, and shows just 16,000 miles on the odometer. There’s not much more information on the car in the listing, but one thing I’d like to know more about is what Fred used for a base car as a Speedster was not offered by Porsche in 1984. I’m assuming a 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet was used. Add to that that this car was reported as a theft recovery in 1988, and one must suspect there’s quite the story here.

Either way, it’s a Strosek, and certain Strosek cars bring the money. On the high end of the spectrum are the 964 Strosek Mega Speedsters that bring upwards of $200k and on the low end, we’ve had an ‘89 Strosek Speedster with a built 3.6-liter hammer at $85,911. I’m thinking the $80,000 bid here was all the money considering the history. Should have sold.
