1985 911 Carrera Targa M491

A Turbo widebody sans-Turbos.

Introduced along with the Carrera 3.2 in 1984, Porsche’s M491 option was a way to get the looks of the 930 Turbo for your standard, non-turbo 911. The Turbo-Look package contained the front fenders of the 930 turbo along with the widened fenders at the back, which were attached the same way as the Turbos with flares welded to the narrow body. It also included the front apron with Black rubber spoiler and integrated driving lights along with the 930 Turbos rear wing, a stiffer suspension, Turbo brakes, and wider Turbo wheels.

This 1985 911 Carrera Targa features Porsche’s M491 option along with a performance DME chip, Fabspeed Maxflo exhaust system, and Bilstein shocks. It’s finished in Black over a Champagne leather interior and features Silver Targa side script, Black-centered 16” Fuchs alloy wheels, and shows 105,000 miles on the odometer.

The Black paint is in decent condition with the seller showing some dings on the left fender, cowl, and right quarter panel. On the inside, the interior was retrimmed in Champagne leather and features a WEVO shifter, Rennline pedal covers, a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, and a McIntosh stereo with amplifiers, component speakers, and a subwoofer mounted under the passenger seat.

The 3.2-liter flat-six was rebuilt in 2022 with the fuel pump, alternator, engine mounts, and oil return tubes replaced at this time. Other work includes a converted air conditioning system, replacement of the front wheel bearings, tie rods, and torsion bar cover plates along with suspension components from Elephant Racing. A nice “driver” example of a great-looking widebody Targa.

At 105,000 miles, this is the highest mileage 3.2-liter Targa with M491 option we’ve seen in the last five years. It sold at a final bid of $96,911, just shy of the $100,000 average but not the lowest price we’ve seen in that time. Lot’s of recent work pushed the price of this one up, but it was worth the extra money imo. A fair deal for both parties here.
