1985 911 Targa M491

A rare Targa ends up quite the deal

Porsche’s Carrera 3.2 became the first 911 to offer the “Turbo Look” on a 911 that didn’t include a turbocharger, a look that would grace many more highly sought-after models for generations to come. Known as the M491 Option, it was offered on both Coupes, Cabriolets, and Targas, with the semi-open-topped Targas being the rarest of the bunch.

This 1985 911 Carrera Targa featured said M491 option and came finished in Black over Black with Black-centered Fuchs wheels and showed just 41,000 miles on the odometer. The car looked to be in very nice condition as evidenced by hundreds of photos in the gallery which included paint meter readings and service records, the latest of which being an $8,450 invoice from 2022.

M491 Targas saw a jump in price mid-2024 going from an average of just over $103,000 to $128,000 thanks to a number of big sales including a five-year high of $324,000* for a 7,800-mile example in August of last year. Our Spotlight car sold at a final bid of $114,500, which considering a similar-looking 53,000-mile car sold for $170,000 last fall, seems like a steal. Very well bought for the rarest of the first generation Turbo Look 911s.
