1985 911 Turbo Coupe Race Car

Did the Brumos ties help push this 930 Race Car to new heights?

When it comes to American Porsche racing history, few names hold as much weight as the famed Brumos Porsche team. And although this 1985 911 Turbo Coupe Race Car was not campaigned by the Brumos team specifically, it was purchased and converted into a race car by Brumos racing driver, J.C. France.

Finished in Black with an Interscope-themed racing livery, this 911 Turbo features a 934.5-style front spoiler, decklid, and rear wing as well as lightweight fiberglass hood and door panels. The car also features front and rear tow hooks, hood pins, an external cutoff switch, a center-mounted exhaust pipe, Lexan windows, body-colored headlamp covers, red brake calipers, and aftermarket three-piece wheels dressed in Pirelli DH racing slicks.

On the inside, the car is 100% race car with an orange-painted full roll cage, a carbon fiber dashboard cover, a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, and a MOMO bucket seat among other goodies. But when it comes to modified Turbos, out back is what counts, and this example brings power with a larger Garrett turbocharger, a custom full-width intercooler, a Turbosmart wastegate, headers, an enlarged front-mounted oil cooler, and a Haltech Elite ECU.

Condition-wise, the car looks to be in good condition considering years of track use. A new fuel bladder has been recently installed and the engine and transmission were rebuilt within the last 10 hours of use. The seller does note that the suspension needs servicing and the car is sold on a bill of sale.

Race cars are hard to price but 930 race cars have averaged just over the $80,000 mark over the last few years with more failing to sell than not. Our Spotlight car fell in the sold category, although it sold at the lowest price we’ve seen at a final bid of $70,000. With the ties to Brumos, and the quality of the build, I’d have to call this one well bought. Just imagine sitting behind the wheel of this one in the paddock at Daytona for the vintage races. Hmmmmm.
