1986 911 Turbo DP 935 II
A 930 from a legendary tuner is quite the deal
DP Motorsport, founded in 1973 by Ekkehard Zimmermann in Overath, Germany, quickly established itself as a prominent tuner and designer for Porsche vehicles. Originally focused on crafting lightweight and innovative racing bodies, DP Motorsport gained recognition through collaborations with Kremer Racing, most notably creating the Porsche 935 K3, which triumphed at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans. Their expertise extended beyond motorsports, as they developed unique road-going Porsche modifications, including 911s like this 1986 911 Turbo DP 935 II.
This DP-modified Turbo started life as a Indischrot (India Red) rest-of-world example that was delivered new to DP Motorsports for modifications prior to importation to the US in 1985. The car received DP’s Slant Nose bodywork along with oil-cooler exhaust ducts in the hood, vented fenders, front & rear spoilers, revised side skirts, and flush-mounted side mirrors. The Tan leather interior remained mostly stock aside from a WEVO shifter, Personal Fittipaldi steering wheel, and DP-branded tach.
The engine was modified by Kremer Racing with ported and polished heads, a K27 turbocharger, adjustable boost, a larger intercooler, and higher-capacity oiling and fueling systems. It was rebuilt in 2020 and last serviced in March of this year. A very cool car built by an iconic Porsche tuner and Race shop. Does it get much better (or more ‘80s) than this?
Modified 930 Turbos have remained fairly steady over the past few years hovering around the $120,000 mark, but with pricing greatly varied depending on amount of work, and who built it. RUF cars typically hold the top spot in the Custom 930 market, but one would imagine a DP Motorsports-built example would be up there as well. Today’s Spotlight car sold at a final bid of $180,000, a bit short of some of the RUF-VIN’d and RUF-modified examples we’ve seen as of late. One heck of a deal if you ask me.
