1987 911 Carrera 3.2 Coupe 5-Speed
A black beauty with a bit of a history
The 1987 911 Carrera 3.2 marked a significant step forward in the evolution of the Classic 911 with notable improvements to its engine and transmission. The 3.2-liter flat-six, now optimized for premium-unleaded fuel, produced 217 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, delivering more power for us here in the U.S. Another major milestone was the introduction of the Getrag G50 5-speed transmission, which replaced the aging 915 gearbox. Featuring a hydraulically actuated clutch and a gear selector centering spring, the G50 offered smoother shifts and more precise gear engagement. The Carrera 3.2 also represented the final evolution of the classic torsion-bar-suspension 911, blending mechanical simplicity with modernized performance.
This 1987 911 Carrera Coupe 5-Speed came finished in Black over a Burgundy leather interior and showed just 35,000 miles on the odometer, but a “True Mileage Unknown” (TMU) brand on the title as the odo was replaced in 1989 and repaired in 2024. The car came with a gallery full of detailed images with the paint showing some minor blemishes and the interior looking to be in very nice condition. Mechanically, the car has had plenty of recent work and came with a number of service invoices as well as pictures of compression test readings. While it most likely doesn’t have 35k on the odometer, this Carrera 3.2 looks very nice and has been well maintained over the past few years.
Over the past twelve months, Carrera 3.2 Coupe averages have swung between $75,000 and $88,000, with peaks in early 2024 and August of this year, and now settling around the $80,000 mark. Our Spotlight car, despite a TMU title, sold at an above average price of $88,000 thanks to a great color combination, plenty of work, and nice overall condition.
