1987 911 Carrera Targa 5-Speed
87 was a great year for the 911, and this example was the best
1987 was a good year for Porsche’s Carrera 3.2 as the car received a Getrag G50 transmission replacing the old Porsche 915 gearbox, and the US market got the more powerful, 217 bhp, Type 930/25 engine. And prices reflect this upgrade.
This 1987 911 Carrera Targa is finished in Guards Red over a Black leather interior and features 15” Black-centered Fuchs wheels, optional Sport Shocks, and a Limited Slip Differential. With 15,000 miles on the odometer, it’s the lowest mileage example we’ve seen at auction in the last twelve months, and it looks the part.
The Guards Red paint is in excellent condition as evidenced by over 400 photos in the gallery and even paint meter readings. The interior, engine bay, and undercarriage are just as clean and the car comes with a stack of service records and dealer stamps in the maintenance booklet. Easily one of, if not the best, examples we’ve seen.
As you would expect, this car achieved a twelve-month high at a final bid of $132,000 and is only out bid by one other car in the last five years. A deserving price for a collector’s grade example, but in order to maintain value, it has to remain just that, a low-mileage collector’s car. Personally, I’d rather one to drive.
