1988 911 Carrera Club Sport
A masterclass in auction presentation brings the money
Designed with a focus on driver engagement and weight reduction, the 911 Carrera 3.2 Club Sport shed many comfort features to enhance performance and featured a tuned flat-six with higher revs and sharper throttle response along with a stiffer suspension and chassis mods for exceptional handling. Add to that the fact that only 28 of these made their way to the US, and you have a rare and highly coveted 911.
This 1988 911 Carrera Club Sport is finished in Grand Prix White over a Black cloth interior and shows just 15,000 miles on the odometer. It is one of the 28 original US cars and presents in impeccable condition with a plethora of paint meter readings along with hundreds of detailed photographs in the gallery. Also included with the sale is extensive documentation along with original NOS parts, a recent service in 2024, and a hand-written maintenance log from the previous owner. A wonderful car, and probably one of the best presentations of any vehicle I’ve seen over the years.
With only 340 produced for the world, I’m actually surprised at how many cars we’ve seen over the past five years. In that time, the majority of cars on offer have fallen below the $200k mark with just three selling over $300k. Two of those cars were sub-6,500-mile examples with the most recent being from The White Collection (of course). The other was a rare PTS Linden Green RoW example with 48k km on the odo.
Our Spotlight car joined the $300k plus club at a final bid of $310,000, making it the third highest price paid for an example at auction in the last five years. And to be honest, it feels cheap. I’m going with well-bought here, and I’m willing to bet that will be proven over time.
