1988 911 Carrera Coupe 5-Speed

Big money for a G, but could have been more

The G-Series 911 had quite the evolution through its 16-year run culminating with the G50-equipped Carrera 3.2 in 1989. The G50 featured a hydraulic clutch which replaced the cable-actuated 915 gearbox in 1987 and the 3.2-liter flat-six produced 217 horsepower and is known as one of Porsche’s most durable air-cooled engines. A sweet-spot in the 911s history before drastic changes brought by the 964 that replaced it.

This single-family-owned 1988 911 Carrera Coupe 5-Speed came finished in Guards Red over a Black leather interior and showed just 16,000 miles on the odometer. It looked to be in very good condition from the numerous pictures provided in the gallery which included paint meter readings, original documents, and tons of service records.

Over the last twelve months, Carrera 3.2 coupes have averaged around the $80,000 mark with ‘87 to ‘89 G50-equipped models bumping that average up to between $85-95k. Sub-40,000-mile examples see a jump in price with cars selling at $125k plus. Our Spotlight car hammered at a final bid of $131,000, which was on the lower end of low mileage comps. That being said, I think the winning bidder got a bit of a deal here considering the ownership chain since new. Well bought.
