1988 911 Carrera Coupe 5-Speed

Did the accident on the CarFax hurt this ultra-low mileage 911?

When friends ask me which vintage 911 to buy as their first Porsche, I often steer them towards a late ‘80s Carrera 3.2. These examples retain the classic design of the 911 and are the end of an era as the 3.2 was replaced by the new 964 in 1990. Pair that with the G50 transmission, solid build quality, and an engaging and visceral driving experience and you have yourself a winner.

This 1988 911 Carrera Coupe 5-Speed is one of the best we’ve seen as it comes out of single-family ownership and shows just 15,000 miles on the odometer. The Silver Metallic paint appears to be in very good condition and although it shows in accident on the CarFax, paint meter readings only show paintwork on the front hood.

On the inside, the Silver Grey partial leather is in good condition, although it is tough to tell if the bolsters have a bit of discoloration or it’s just the pictures. But based on comments from those who saw the car in person, I’m going with the pics. Mechanically the car has been well serviced and includes receipts going back as far as 1989. A very well-kept, low-mileage example, even with the “accident.”

As you would expect for such a car, it blew past the twelve month average of $81,000 selling at a final bid of $132,500. That bid was good enough for this example to be in the top five Carrera 3.2 Coupes we’ve seen, only bested by the example from The White Collection, the Tilman Brodbeck car, and a few others with super low mileage. Right on the money if you ask me, and definitely worth it.
