1988 911 Carrera Coupe Commemorative Edition
How did this rare gem fare in what was a rough day in the market?
To celebrate the production of the 250,000th 911, Porsche released the Commemorative Edition to the world. Offered in Coupe, Cabriolet, and Targa body styles, Porsche built just 875 examples, with roughly 300 making it here to the United States. These cars were finished in a special shade of Diamond Blue Metallic with a Silver Blue Metallic interior and Dr. Ferdinand Porsche’s signature embroidered in the headrests.
While mostly comprised of cosmetic changes, the cars came well-equipped as standard with painted wheel centers, electric sunroof, electric seats, short-shifter, sports suspension, and luxury carpets.
This Canadien 1988 911 Carrera Coupe Commemorative Edition shows 123,000 kilometers (~76,000 miles) on the odometer and has been kept in very nice condition, as evident from the photos provided. The paint shows minimal wear, and paint meter readings are even all around. The interior shows minimal wear, with your typical seat creasing and a few minor blemishes that are easily touched up.
But what sets this example apart from the rest is quite the extensive service history. The service booklet is stamped through 2008 and is accompanied by a stack of receipts. A major engine-out service was completed in 2021 that included rebuilding the cylinder heads, installing a cylinder stud kit, and replacing the oil coolers, fuel lines, and additional components. A lot of love went into keeping this one in tip-top shape.
As these are fairly rare, we’ve only seen a handful of examples sell over the past twelve months, with the two most recent examples being a 23k-mile Coupe that brought $140,000 and a 94,000-mile coupe that brought $66,500. Our Spotlight car sold at a final bid of $79,500, which, based on the two comps, was about right on the money. Fair deal for both buyer and seller here for such a well-kept car.
