1989 911 Carrera Cabriolet M491
Close to a new high, but not enough to get the job done

First introduced in 1984, Porsche’s M491 option gave your regular Carrera 3.2 the look of a 930 Turbo with wider front and rear fenders along with the stiffer Turbo suspension, superior Turbo brakes, and wider Turbo wheels. It was offered in all three body styles, Coupe, Cabriolet, and Targa, with a total of 1,180 built through its six year production run.
This 1989 911 Carrera Cabriolet is one such M491-equipped cars, of which roughly 290 were produced. Finished in Black over a Champagne leather interior, this example showed just 34,000 miles on the odometer and looked to be in nice condition although some evidence of paintwork was noted by the paint meter readings and it came with a handful of service receipts, the latest of which appeared to be from 2016.
M491-equipped Cabriolets steadily rose from 2020 to the beginning of 2023 but have remained pretty much flat since then, averaging around the $86,000 with a twelve-month high of $116,000 for a White Gold Metallic example with 31k back in June of last year. Our Spotlight car’s final bid fell just $1,000 short of that high bid, which apparently the seller was looking to top as the car went unsold.
