1989 911 Carrera Coupe Restomod
A great build for much less than the cost to replicate
Of the modified 911s that sold recently, I’d have to say that this 1989 911 Carrera 4 Coupe has to be my favorite. Finished in a classic 356 shade of Dolphin Grey, this no-expense-spared restomod features all-new trim and hardware along with 9HAUS H4 fluted headlamps, aero mirrors, RS-style brake ducts, and Kinesis three-piece forged wheels.
But it’s the interior that really does it for me. With all-new Black vinyl and leather, the inside features a set of RS America cloth Sport Seats, RS-style carpeting, and RS-style door panels with red door pulls. Red seatbelts, a MOMO Mod 07 Black Edition suede steering with Singer-style leather Porsche crest horn button, a new Swine11 ReBoot shifter kit, a Built by Basil custom one-off skateboard deck shift knob, and a wrinkle black powder-coated Dassport roll bar round out the cabin.
Powering this build is a 3.6-liter M64 engine and 5-speed G50 transmission that Autometrics of Charleston, SC rebuilt. It features a new OEM crankshaft seal installed along with new upper and lower valve cover gaskets, oil pressure sender O-rings, Fabspeed carbon airbox, RS-style heater duct, Patrick Motorsports lower valve covers, a Steve Wong chip, a custom exhaust with FVD cat-bypass, and more.
The custom Carrera market is divided into three tiers. You have your below $100k cars that have been lightly modified or built of a “particular” taste, your $100-160k cars, and some wild $160k+ builds. I’d say this example falls into the upper realm of the middle section, one I would think would be in the $150k range.
However, it sold at a final bid of $136,250, a great deal considering the work involved and the care this car has received from its seller—a solid buy in my book for such a great build.
