1989 911 Speedster

Although ow miles, some some non-originality kept this one at bay

Inspired by the 911 Speedster concept of 1984, the Carrera 3.2 Speedster made its way to production form in 1989, which just happened to coincide with the 911s 25 year anniversary. As the first production model to wear the Speedster name since the legendary 356, the ‘89 Speedster continued the tradition with a raked windshield, two-seat configuration, and a soft top that stowed beneath the rear tonneau cover.

Finished in Black over Black with Black-centered 16” Fuchs wheels, this 1989 911 Speedster showed just 8,000 miles on the odometer. The car looks to be in good condition, but has a few items that one wouldn’t expect for such a low mileage example such as 964 “Speedster” script added to the back, the removal of the third brake light, and a color change on the interior. The car did benefit, however, from about $8k in recent work, so it looks like she’s ready to roll for the new owner.

3.2 Speedsters appear to have softened a bit over the past twelve months with averages heading towards the $200,000 mark, but not quite there yet. Sub-10,000-mile examples have averaged around $260,000 with a handful even touching above $300k. Our Spotlight car initially went unsold at a final bid of $206,000, but ended up selling post-auction for $220,000. At that price, it’s the lowest price paid for a <10k-mile Speedster here in the US in the last twelve months. While it wasn’t a “collector’s” piece, I still expected more. Well bought, even with the minor issues.
