1989 911 Turbo S

Rare as hen's teeth, this Turbo S finally sold

During its incredibly long run from 1975 until 1989, one variant of the 930 stands out as the rarest of the rare: the final-year 930 Turbo S, of which only ten were built. Commissioned through Porsche’s Exclusive program by French distributor, Sonauto, the Turbo S had 30 more horsepower over stock along with upgraded exhaust, sport suspension, an additional oil cooler, an exclusive center console, 959 seats, and a Paint to Sample 2-layer Black finish.

This 1989 911 Turbo S was further enhanced by RUF Automobile in Pfaffenhausen, Germany, with an upgraded fuel-injection system, high-performance 4R exhaust, in-cockpit boost controller, RUF steering wheel, and bespoke RUF gauges.

With 42,000 miles on the odometer, the exterior paint is in good condition, with the hood, lower rocker panels, and rear quarter panels having received paintwork to repair minor chips. The interior is in excellent condition, featuring sports seats trimmed in Black leather with multi-tone Gray inserts. Mechanically, the car was last serviced in December 2022 to the tune of $10,000, but no other service history is included with the auction.

This isn’t the first time this Turbo S has seen these pages. It failed to sell back in February of this year at a high bid of $355,000. It was then offered at Bonham’s Monterey sale in August, where it failed to sell for a second time at a final bid of $300,000. This time, however, the seller was ready to let her go, and with a lower reserve, the car found a new home at $305,000.

At $305,000, this was a new high, as the only other cars to cross the auction block were a 59,000-mile example that failed to sell at a high bid of $260,000 and a 35,800-mile example that sold for $135,000 in May of 2020. While $305k is quite the jump over the only other car to sell, it was a good deal as we’ve seen standard 930s top $300k and up in the last eighteen months.
