1990 944 S2 Coupe 5-Speed
Was a rare shade enough to push this one above average?
Introduced in 1989, the 944 S2 was the final version of Porsche’s hugely successful 944 run. The 3.0-liter four-cylinder engine produced 208 horsepower in its final form and was the largest production four-cylinder engine of its time. Other upgrades included a revised transmission and the rounded nose and rear end as featured on the Turbo variant.
This 83,000-mile 1990 944 S2 5-speed is finished in a beautiful Zyclam Red Pearl paint over White leather and features 16” Design 90 alloy wheels, power seats, and a sunroof. While the CarFax is clean and clear, the seller notes paintwork on the front and rear of the vehicle, with the left rear quarter panel having been refinished under previous ownership.
The paint looks to be in above-average condition for its age and mileage, and the seller does a good job of pointing out the blemishes. The interior looks above-average as well, especially for White, and shows normal signs of wear on the seats. The original manuals show plenty of early service history, and the car is accompanied by recent receipts with its last oil change performed in October of this year.
The market for 944 S2s has remained fairly flat over the last five years with an average price of $22,688, but low-mileage, extremely clean examples achieving above $30k and a most recent high of $49,000 for a 37,000-mile example sold in July of this year.
Our Spotlight car sold at a high bid of $22,750, which was about right for the condition combined with paintwork. It wasn’t perfect, but it presented as a very nice driver, and at that price, both parties should be happy.
