1990 RUF BTR III Cabriolet

A prime W09 example of RUF's Group B inspired Turbo.

Inspired by the FIA’s Group B regulations, the RUF BTR III boasts a 408-horsepower engine capable of in excess of 200 mph, crafted using the 930 Turbo body and 935-sourced internals. While many Porsche’s received “BTR” upgrades, only ~25 units feature the unique “W09” RUF chassis number designating RUF manufactured cars.

This 1990 RUF BTR III Cabriolet is one such W09 example and was built to Flat-Nose specifications. Delivered new to RUF Canada, this example retains its numbers-matching engine and shows just 2,072 miles on the odometer.

Finished in Black, this example has been fitted with a rarely seen body configuration consisting of a Flat-Nose and Turbo S rear air ducts and rides on Black-painted 17” Speedline wheels. On the inside, the car features Black leather Recaro CSE seats, a Sony sound system, and RUF instrumentation. As you would expect for such a low-mileage example, this one presents in impeccable condition.

As no two RUF BTRs left the factory similarly specced, it’s difficult to find exact comps. But of all the RUF BTRs we’ve seen at auction over the last few years, this example achieved the second highest price paid at a final bid of $680,000 ($753,000 all-in). Big money, even for a RUF, but at the rate these are climbing, this one will seem well-bought in a few years.
