1992 911 Turbo

Did the rare Rubystone Red paint push this 964 Turbo to new heights?

While the 1991 964 Turbo sported the body of the new model, the all-new Turbo engine wasn’t ready for launch. So for the first two years of the 964 Turbo’s life, it came equipped with the tried and true 3.3-liter Turbo engine out of the outgoing 930 Turbo, although with some nice upgrades.

This recently imported 1992 911 Turbo is one of 836 examples sold outside of the US and is finished in Rubystone Red over a Black leather interior. Upon arrival to the US, this 61,390km (~38k miles) car was stripped down to bare metal and resprayed in its original color. Pictures of the work are included in the gallery.

Also completed at this time was a re-trim of the interior in genuine Porsche-spec Black Nappa leather to match the recently added Sport Seats in the car. Mechanically, a full service was completed in preparation for this sale including a brake fluid flush, an oil & air filter change, a wheel alignment, and recharging of the A/C refrigerant.

The market for 3.3-liter 911 Turbos has been on the rise over the last five years going from an average price of just over $100,000 towards the end of 2019 to $200,000 today. Over the last twelve months we’ve seen a high of $423,000 for a 30k-mile X33 Package car and plenty of others above the average. Our Spotlight car sold at a final bid of $221,000, which was about average for the mileage. For a restored car in a special 1 of 6 color, I’d have to say this one was well bought. Congrats to the buyer. What a car.
