1994 911 Carrera 4 Widebody
It looks like it's time for sellers to adjust their expectations when it comes to this special 964
When I finally make it over to the Porsche archives someday, one of the first Porsche Rumors I’m looking to dig into is the one behind the creation of the 964 Carrera 4 Widebody.
It is said that due to the economic uncertainty of the early ‘90s, 964 Turbo sales began to slow at such a pace that Porsche feared they would not sell enough cars to use the Turbo bodies already on order. Porsche introduced the special “30 Jahre 911” with a planned production of 911 units to use up the remaining Turbo bodies. But those didn’t sell out either, so they slapped Turbo bodies on ~267 911 Carrera 4s and sent them to the States.
This 1994 911 Carrera 4 Widebody is finished in Grand Prix White over Cashmere Beige leather and shows just 43,000 miles on the odometer. It came equipped with 17” Cup 1 wheels, power seats, a sunroof, and a Blaupunkt stereo—pretty much your standard C4.
The paint appears to be in good condition, as seen in the photo gallery, with even paint meter readings all around, although the right rear fender seems a tad bit high. The interior and engine bay are spotless, although I’m surprised the well-known seller didn’t provide detailed undercarriage pics with the car on a lift. Either way, it's an excellent example of a very rare car.
After shooting straight up post-pandemic, the 964 Widebody market has seemed to cool off as we’ve seen lower highs and lower lows, with the most recent sale being a 64,000-mile example at $215,033 in August and the most recent comp being a 30,000-mile Jubilee that failed to sell at $197,000 just last month.
So, am I surprised that this example failed to sell at a high bid of $175,000? While I hoped to see this one hammer down over $200k, the market has spoken as the downward trend has continued. It’s time for sellers to adjust their reserves, I’m afraid.
