1994 911 Turbo S 3.6 X85 Flachbau
A sordid past kept this rare bird bid on the low side
Towards the end of 964 production, Porsche had 93 Turbo chassis left over so they sent them off to Porsche Exclusive to be hand built into the special Turbo 3.6 S. The cars were fitted with the 380 hp X88 power kit and some received the Flachbau Slant Nose while only 17 were built with a normal front end. Cars destined for the US were known as X85 cars. These 39 examples all received the Flachbau front end as well as the exclusive engine mentioned above.
This 1994 911 Turbo S is one such X85 Flachbau delivered new to the US market. It is finished in Midnight Blue Metallic paint over a Cobalt Blue leather interior with Patterned Cloth seat inserts and currently shows 30,000 miles on the odometer.
The Midnight Blue paint looks to be in good condition all around without much wear, as it should since the car was pretty much completely repainted with the hood, front bumper, front-left fender, and left side skirt were replaced due to a severe accident that resulted in a total loss and salvage title. Ouch. On the inside, the car appears to be well kept and the seller includes hundreds of pictures detailing the car. What’s not included though are any service records other than the few mentioned on the CarFax. She’s a rare one, but one with quite a rough history.
As you can imagine, with such a rare car, comps are few and far between. The last Turbo S to sell was a 24,432-mile example that hammered for $830,000 in March of this year. Prior to that we’ve seen a high of $1,462,500 all-in for the 39-mile car sold at The White Collection and a low of $505,000 for a 46k-mile that was completely repainted back in February 2023.
Our Spotlight car was bid to $482,000, the lowest bids we’ve seen since a pair of no-sales back in 2021, but pretty close to the market low. Given that the previous low was repainted, but did not have accident damage or a salvage title, I’d have to say that $482k was all the money here.
