1994 911 Turbo S 'Package Car'
This rare 964 was right there, should it have sold?
In typical Porsche fashion, they saved the best for last as towards the end of 964 production, they launched the 911 Turbo S in limited numbers, and limited configurations based on country. 93 of the remaining Turbo chassis were fitted with X88-optioned engines giving the cars 380 horses thanks to larger turbochargers, upgraded camshafts, cylinder heads, and adjusted valve timing. And while most examples were fitted with a Slant Nose, 17 were produced with the standard 911 front end. These rare cars would go on to be known as ‘Package Cars.’
This 1994 911 Turbo S is one such ‘Package Car’ finished in Black over Black leather and shows just 21,937 miles on the odometer. It features a leather-trimmed dashboard, center console, and door panels from the factory along with sunroof, heated front seats, and Sony audio system. As you can imagine, the car is in very nice condition, which I can attest as I drooled over this car yesterday prior to Broad Arrow’s auction.
With only a limited number of cars built, comps are few and far between with the most recent sale being a 5,600-mile example that hammered for $1,075,000 in November of last year and the most recent result being a 13,000-mile example from The White Collection that failed to sell at a final bid of $990,000 in December.
Our Spotlight car failed to sell at a final bid of $950,000, which had to of been close to the reserve as it was in the territory of the comps above and just shy of the $1,075,000 asking price on the car at the sale right now. Personally, I think one of you should just offer a cool $1m and call it day. 😃
