1995 911 Carrera RS
993s seemed to struggle yesterday. What gives?
When a Porsche collector friend of mine started to trim down his collection to only the best of the best, one of the cars he kept was the 993 Carrera RS. A true homologation model, the 993 RS was built to qualify the RSR 3.8 for BPR GT3 and GT4 racing across the globe and was limited to just over 1,000 examples. The naturally aspirated 3.8-liter engine produced 300 bhp at 6,500 rpm, the body was seam-welded and stripped off all unnecessary weight, and the suspension was modified for a stiffer, track-prepped ride to produce one of the most engaging driving experiences one can have. Or so I’ve heard. 😭
This 1995 911 Carrera RS was delivered new to Porsche Zentrum Bamberg in Germany (we never got these in the US, of course) and is finished in Speed Yellow over a Black leather interior. It features an aluminum hood, front and rear spoilers, 18″ Speedline multi-piece wheels, a front strut tower bar, Recaro seats with body-color shells, and a MOMO steering wheel from the factory and shows 79,000 km (~49,000 miles) on the odometer.
The Speed Yellow paint shows in very good condition with paintwork noted on the right fender, windshield frame, and bumper covers. The Black leather interior is very clean as is the front compartment, engine bay, and undercarriage. Overall, a nice example, although paintwork with no explanation and no title, as this car was located in Germany, might cause some pause.
The market for 993 Carrera RS has been in a decline since the summer of 2022 when we saw the majority of cars selling in the $350-400+ range. Since then, average prices fell to a low average of ~$320k before heading back up recently thanks to several big sales of some low mileage examples. Our Spotlight car failed to sell at a final bid of $280,000, the lowest bid we’ve seen on a US auction site since 2020. Had this example been free of paintwork and located here in the US, there’s no doubt it would have seen over $300k. But it wasn’t, and it didn’t.
TOGETHER WITH PORSCHE SALT LAKE CITY
There are many Porsche Centers here in the US, and then there are PORSCHE Centers. Those who have a deep-rooted passion for the history of the marque that shows through everything they do, especially their choice of inventory. And Porsche Salt Lake City is one such PORSCHE Center. Serving the Salt Lake Valley since 1958 as one of the first Porsche dealers in the United States, a quick browse of their inventory lets one know just how dedicated to the brand this group of Porsche enthusiasts is.
Take for example this 1993 964 Carrera RS 3.8. Produced as the base to homologate Porsche’s legendary 3.8 RSR race car, the Carrera RS 3.8 was the ultimate evolution of the standard RS as it shed around 600 lbs of weight while increasing horsepower to 300 for a most visceral driving experience. And with only 55 units produced, you’ll be hard-pressed to find another for sale on the showroom floor of another Porsche Center.
