1996 911 Cabriolet Modified by RWB
I always love a fat-bottomed Porsche. But does the market?
Regarding RWB Porsches, you either love the exaggerated fender flares, deep-dish wheels, and oversized rear wings, or you think their creator, Akira Nakai, should be locked up in Porsche jail. I’m a fan, as I’ve always loved Japanese tuner culture, and I can’t wait to see two examples go under the knife of Nakai in NJ in a few months.
This RWB Porsche started life as a 1996 911 Cabriolet with 120,000 miles on the odometer before being transformed into the car you see above in 2023. Along with the signature RWB fender flares, this example sports a ducktail spoiler and Speedster-style humps covering the rear seats. It rides on staggered-width 18” BBS 3-piece wheels and is slammed to the ground using a Prazis air suspension system.
On the inside, the car features an RWB steering wheel and heated seats finished in Tan leather with plaid cloth inserts that extend to the door panels and floor mats. Mechanically, the engine is a stock 3.6-liter with a Supercup-style exhaust system. And if you want to hear your music over the exhaust roar, the car has been fitted with a Sony head unit feeding tunes to two trunk-mounted DS18 amplifiers powering Kicker speakers and subwoofers.
As you can imagine, RWB comps are few and far between, but like most modified 911s, they’ve seen a jump in prices over the last few years, going from sales in the $100k range to between $150-250k in the last twelve months.
Our Spotlight car, however, failed to sell at a high bid of $87,502, the lowest bid we’ve seen since all the way back in 2017. While being a Cabriolet and having a stock engine had something to do with the bidding, it should have at least crossed the $100k mark, IMO. Maybe another run in the spring will bring this one over into the sold column.
