1997 911 Carrera S Coupe Vesuvio Edition 6-Speed
A Phil Collins Edition 911 sets a new record
As one of the rarest 993s, the 993 Carrera S Vesuvio Edition has become a very sought-after car, as only 60 examples were built and rarely come up for sale. The edition is named for its Vesuvio Metallic Paint and is also visually distinguished from other “standard” Carrera S’ by its Steel Grey door mirror caps.
This 1997 911 Carrera S Coupe Vesuvio Edition 6-speed shows just 34,000 miles on the odometer. It comes equipped with a Black leather interior, 18” Hollow-Spoke “Technology” wheels, Power Seat Package, Hi-Fi Sound Package, and a 6-Disk CD Changer.
The exterior of the car shows nicely, with minor wear consistent with mileage and even paint meter readings all around. The interior is in excellent condition with seat bolsters looking good as well as other high-wear areas. The car comes with a stack of service receipts, the most recent being a $2,400 servicing in November of this year. All in all, a very nice example of a rare 993.
As only 60 cars were built, comps for Vesuvio Editions are few and far between. But we have had several sales over the last few years, with a higher mileage example bringing $170,000 earlier this year and a 28,000-mile example bringing $236,000 in April 2022.
Our Spotlight car, with 34,000 miles, sold at a high bid of $245,000, not only making this the highest price achieved for a Vesuvio edition in the last five years but also the highest price paid at auction for a 993 Carrera S in the same timeframe.
