1997 911 Carrera Targa 6-Speed
The market continues to gobble up Targas. (I had to)
For the 993 generation, Porsche took the Targa concept in a completely new direction from the Targa roll bar and removable roof panel. Instead, the roof was made with a tinted, heat-insulated glass encased in a longitudinal safety structure running from the front to the rear instead of left and right. When fully retracted, the large glass panel slid behind the rear window, offering reduced noise compared to the previous Targa and a sun-drenched interior.
This 107,000-mile 1997 911 Carrera Targa 6-speed is finished in Black over Black partial leather. It is optioned with the Motor Sound Package, Limited Slip Differential, Full Power Driver’s Seat, and Targa-specific 17” Speedline wheels.
The exterior shows typical wear for the mileage with light stone chips and surface scratches. Paint meter readings are provided in the gallery and show paintwork on the driver’s side rear quarter panel. The interior is very clean, with the front seats reupholstered a few years ago and still looking new today.
Mechanically, this has been well kept as it includes a stack of service records totaling tens of thousands of dollars in work. The engine bay and undercarriage present well. The sale includes the original window sticker, a clean CarFax, keys, tool roll, and books—a very nice example, especially given the higher miles.
It took a while for the sliding-roof Targas to be appreciated, but the market has been on a steady climb since 2019, with the average price paid going from roughly $50,000 to shy of $80,000 where it sits today. While all comps above 40,000 miles have sat below today’s average, this 993 Targa stood out with a winning bid of $85,500, making it the highest price paid for a Targa over 40k in the last twelve months. While this appears to be well sold today, with Targa prices on the rise, this will look like a fair deal in the coming years.
