1998 RUF CTR 2

If a CTR 2 did this, what's an original CTR worth?

Making its debut in 1995 as the follow-up to RUF’s legendary “Yellowbird” CTR, the CTR 2 lived up to its predecessor’s status as the new car was the world’s fastest production car at its launch, reaching a top speed of 217 mph. This speed was achieved thanks to a redesigned aero package, lightweight Kevlar body panels, and lightweight glass. And oh year, the 520 bhp 3.6 sitting out back.

This 1998 RUF CTR 2 if finished in Silver over Black and shows roughly 28,700 km (~17k miles) on the odometer. Offered at auction by its original owner, this CTR 2 was specified with the upgraded 580 hp engine, 4WD, wide body, short ratio transmission, and carbon brakes.

The car looks to be in good condition with the Silver paint looking nice with very little in the way of wear. On the inside, the front seats show some wear from having to get in and out of those deep buckets and some scratches on the back. There are plenty of detailed pictures of the undercarriage as well as a lifetime of documentation dating back to the original order form.

As you can imagine with such low production volume, CTR 2 comps are few and far between. I couldn’t find any “normal” CTR 2s in the last five years, but did find a pair of Sports that sold for $773,934 and $736,500 all-in back in 2020 and 2019. Other than the prices, I don’t have any other information on those cars, so hard to compare. Our Spotlight RUF ended up trouncing those numbers selling at a high bid of $1,900,000. Was that too much, or a good deal? I’m going with right on the money as the legend of RUF has exponentially increased over the last five years and we’ve seen other RUF cars jump tremendously as well.
