The "not a GT3" breaks records
Three homologation cars in three days! Well, not really. But this 1999 Carrera 4 Coupe was built and owned by Porsche AG for use as a preview vehicle for the upcoming 996.1 GT3, which homologated the 911 to race in the FIA’s GT3 Cup.
Finished in Speed Yellow, this C4 sports a factory GT3-style Aerokit along with color-matched 18” SportDesign wheels. On the inside, you’ll find Clubsport bucket seats with painted backs, extensive Carbon fiber, and lot’s of Speed Yellow trim. Mechanically, the car features Porsche’s X51 Powerkit and 030 Sport Suspension, and comes with plenty of service records out of Germany.
Overall, the car is in excellent condition and a wonderful piece of Porsche’s history with more options than I have space for here. There were, however, questions as to the authenticity of the statement that this was owned by Porsche. But if you looked through the hundreds of photos in the gallery, you can clearly see that Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG was the first registered owner.
And it looks like bidders though this was the real deal as well, as it sold way over average 996 C4 Coupe prices which are just shy of $30k. The final bid was also much higher than the previous high of $59,000 paid for a 12,000-mile example back in February of 2022. That final bid? $85,000. My only question, though, when are we finally going to see a real 996.1 GT3 hit the US auction scene?
